My First Driving Lesson in Melbourne

· My Driving Journey in Melbourne

My first driving instructor Ms. L was introduced by a casual friend. It's $55 for 45 minutes.

At first, she taught me all the car operations: what lights are for, wipers, different kinds of brakes... so many terms I didn't know, and I was pretty confused.

Then we just started driving. Turning was really hard; I had no idea how much to turn the wheel. All I remembered was her telling me not to cross my hands.

In the first lesson, I learned:

  • The car moves even without stepping on the accelerator.
  • Don't cross your hands when turning the steering wheel; you might not react in time, and your hands could get stuck.
  • Always signal when turning.
  • Press the brake and accelerator gently. The car might react a bit slowly, but wait another 1-2 seconds, and it will gradually slow down or speed up.

I felt like a complete mess, maybe not cut out for driving at all; I just didn't get the "feel" for it. But for my child, for convenience, I have to keep going!
